Congratulations, you've successfully created your no code mobile app with Thunkable! Here’s your next challenge as an app creator: spreading the word and driving downloads. Luckily, leveraging social media is a great way to start without having to spend a dime. (Considering other channels like email or ads? Read about those here.)

In our latest edition of Marketing Tips, we’ll take a look at using social media to build brand awareness, the benefits of social media marketing, and why certain channels may be more effective for your business than others.

Just A Note…

It’s important to differentiate between organic and paid social media. Organic describes the posts that users and businesses share directly on their feeds with the expectation that this content will be shared with their followers. Paid refers to sponsored advertising used to reach a broader audience than an account’s organic following. The goal of these activities is to result in an increase in followers, engagements, and clicks. This infographic sums up the benefits of organic and paid.

Blog Using Social Media to Build App Awareness

Since you’re just getting the basics down, we will focus on organic for now. (We’ll cover paid social media in a future blog post!)

Let’s dive in! ⬇️

Facebook

Facebook (Meta) is one of the most dominant social channels for a reason. With over 1.9 billion daily active users, Facebook has a wide reach that spans many different types of consumers. Besides its utility as a social media platform, Facebook also allows you to provide excellent customer service via their built-in Messenger.

Types of Content: Photo, Video, Stories

Best for: Brand Awareness, Community Building, Customer Service

Who’s doing it well:

Why we like this: Productivity app Evernote uses this post to keep their followers informed about their latest and greatest mobile app updates. Using emojis conveys the new features in an informative way, and stands out compared to a standard bullet-point format. The comments section also becomes an opportunity to answer questions.

Twitter

Eager to be part of conversations in real-time? We recommend using Twitter. With its short-form, 280-character limit, Twitter gives you a chance to deliver valuable and concise content to followers. Use relevant #hashtags to reach people interested in topics related to your business.

Content types: Text, Photo, Video

Best for: Community Building, Customer Service, Thought Leadership

Who’s doing it well:

Why we like this: With the start of 2022 closing in, Transit, which sources public transportation data, asked what was on their followers’ New Year’s wishlist. This post engages the audience with a timely question and crowdsources feature requests in an enjoyable, interactive way.

💡Thunkable Tip: Let the power of your community generate content for you! Keep your followers engaged with questions, and make their voices heard by delivering content based on their questions, responses or feedback!

Instagram

Instagram is a visual-first platform. Unlike other social channels, every Instagram post must include a graphic, so sourcing visually appealing content will play in your favor. This is an opportunity to grow strong brand awareness with a consistent look and feel. While this may sound intimidating, Canva provides great templates to get started.

Content types: Photo, Video, Stories

Best for: Brand Awareness, Community Building

Who’s doing it well:

Why we like this: This simple, dynamic video content effectively reinforces wellness app Headspace’s brand image (the color orange, delightful illustrations), and encourages the incorporation of the app into one’s daily routine.

LinkedIn

While the aforementioned channels have been focused primarily on consumers, LinkedIn is uniquely targeted at business professionals. Here, you’ll break newsworthy announcements, launches, and hiring efforts. Another bonus of LinkedIn: long-form content! This is an opportunity to share informative articles and become a trusted voice in your industry.

Content types: Text, Photo, Video, Blogs

No code

Why we like this: Note-taking application Notion welcomes several new hires to their organization in this LinkedIn post, and gives longer introductions in the accompanying short article. The audience receives a behind-the-scenes look at the team behind Notion, showcasing their humanistic side. As a bonus, there is also a quick plug to check out other open positions.

TikTok

Like Instagram, TikTok is all about visuals – in this case, video! Every TikTok user’s video feed is curated and continually refined algorithmically based on the content they like and interact with. In other words, your viewers will likely have some existing interest in your subject matter and you’ll have an opportunity to broadcast to future potential customers. The TikTok video format is a great way to showcase your app’s features and demonstrate how it provides value.
